Who is the REAL fool?

Jokes and Pranks and Everything in between is FAIR GAME on April 1st.

After researching the all mighty Internet for an answer I have yet to discover the true origins of April Fool’s Day. But does it really even matter? It doesn’t to me. Today is a day where you take nothing seriously and accept everything lightheartedly. A day of pranksters, jokesters, and receivers on the other end. So why isn’t everyone out celebrating and pulling as many stunts as possible on their friends and family? Today I took the opportunity and jumped on the fact that I had a few people who could use a good “Fooling”.

At 9:00am as I walked into work my heart was racing and my head was floating thinking of how great my prank was going to be. I was like a little kid going to summer vacation. Excited as ever. But of course ever good crime needs a solid accomplice. Hmmm.. Where to find one of those. My co-worker Karen seemed like the best target and I quickly informed her of the master plan and while hesitant she agreed.

BACKGROUND

Nick – Ex Boyfriend. Co Worker. Photographer who always gets too much shit thrown at him in the day and constantly complains about unreasonable tasks.

Karen – Works in licensing. Creates tasks for Nick that are often viewed as unreasonable.

Me – Project Manager with control to the project management system.

…sounds like a deadly combination!

THE PLAN

Karen is to say that she spoke with our busiest and most high maintenence client. Gene Simmonss of KISS. Gene supposively called Karen at odd hours of the night to inform her that their new tour merch came in and that it needs to be photographed and live by 10:30am today. This shipment was supossed to comtaian over 100 items. After Nick sees request the pranksters were to go in his office with an empty box with a post it in the bottom saying APRIL FOOLS!

THE ACTUAL SITUATION

Nick was late to work. The work order was live and waiting for him. When he calls me to say that the Muni is broken and he will be late. I decide to start the prank a bit early. Told him that he should hurry because he had a big urgent rquest that was super high priority. Nick asked if he should take a cab and expense it but I decided to tell him that was not neccessary.

As he enters the office and turns on his computer he is shocked to see a task awaiting him of such epic proportions. I mean seriously.. no person could complete it in less than a week and he was supposed to have it done in 2 hours. So being the great employee he is, he forwards the task on to his boss, whom is also my boss and tells him of the unreasonable request.

15 minutes later Karen runs to my desk “OH MY GOD JODIE DID YOU SEE GARY’S EMAIL BACK TO NICK!!! HE IS GOING STRAIGHT TO DELL TO TALK TO HIM ABOUT THIS!” NOW that is funny on its own but seeing as how Dell is our CEO and the entire team was now aware of this joke, the humor was beginning to fade. Quickly.

I take the initiative to email and text the team and my boss with an apology and let them know this was just a joke and it went the wrong way.

I received no answer.

From anyone.

So while I am sitting wondering if they are up to something down in LA, Karen is having a heart attack at my desk. As she tries to breathe and scream at me to get ahold of them so we don’t lose our jobs, I get another email. “Jodie, Dell and Gary have been in a meeting for 15 minutes. They will be calling you shortly.”

Ok my anxiety level is now at a level 6. Hmm. Well nothing I can do except answer.

When I do I hear my CEO and boss saying that we need to talk about the request. As I begin to explain the entire team yells “April Fools Jokes on You.”

Ok Gary and Team 1 Jodie 0.

But I do not go out defeated. I am a trooper and I am on a mission. So the joke will continue.
